A few faces

Hugh

This is from the 1999 and was shot in my flat when I was living in south London.

Hugh was a neighbour of my friend Lisa. He was a face uptown and a very cool dude.

He had a classic car and an innate sense of style. All I had to do was point the camera.

Greenwich Polaroids

Grenwich tunnel 2000.jpg

These polaroids are from autumn 2000. I found them in my camera bag, stuck together for almost twenty years.

A time capsule from Greenwich in 2000, Visiting the market and cafe with my phones off.

Trying to gain a bit of perspective on what had been an eventful year.

In hindsight, it was only October.

About..

These are my parents, taken around 1993 or 4. I took it through the dinning hatch whilst my mother

was cutting my father's hair. I always loved it, from my mothers awareness in the first photo,

to her smile and his reaction in the second.

Mother July 2008

About..
About..

This is from the day before my father's funeral in July 2008.

I had traveled up that day by train. My mother had lost quite a lot of weight whilst caring for my father.

As we chatted, I just started taking a few photos, I suppose it was cathartic. but we were both ok about it and it seemed to make sense.

Chatham barbers

Chatham Barbers

About..

This is from the 1990's when I was at art college. I spent a couple of hours in

there snapping away and feeling self conscious.

I love the environment of a barbers, it's a place where we enter and sit nicely

as people do their job. I think It's the mixture of concentration

and awkwardness. I don't know if I'd do this these days.

My heart always went out to the man with the comb-over.

The young dude in the England tracksuit top isn't looking too happy, I can't say I blame him.

Ju Jitsu

Ju Jitsu

About..

This is Ross the martial arts instructor and a couple of his Ju Jitsu

students. I took these from my studio window one balmy summer night.

I later went on to study Kung Fu with him for a couple of years.

With mixed results, he used to  call me "the king of stick", after my

apparent less than stellar progress in learning a training drill called sticking hands.

Places & people

These are a mixture of landscapes and other 35mm black & white images, mostly from back in the day, whenever that was.

Though it might not look like it, websites require a certain amount of editing and curation. As such, all images are here based on how I consider their aesthetic value and contribution to the site as a whole, and their proximity to the desktop as I do this. But, photographs always offer some sort of window into the past of who took them, whatever.

About..

Jim in NY

This is from the 1990's when me and my girlfriend went to the USA. Jim asked if he could come, so we said yes. In retrospect we were lucky to get out of New York in one piece, but it was far from all bad and Jim is a very engaging guy, and quite the raconteur.

These were taken in New York and when we were travelling around.

I asked the Barber if I could take a few snaps whilst he done his thing, and he was nice enough to let me.
